On Exhibit August 1-26, 2009 in the Gallery at Valley Cottage Library
A walk around Rockland Lake, a trip into New City for ice cream, the Nyack Street Fair, Piermont on a sunny day. These are just a few of the many excursions through Rockland that the Ramapough Poets take in their poetry, exhibited here at the Valley Cottage Library as visual art.

Come share this journey through Rockland County. The work on the walls, personal views of life in Rockland, encompasses its geography, its history and its people. Two very different media are represented in these views: photography and poetry. The interplay between words and images provides the visitor with a unique experience of life in our county.

The poems are written by eight Ramapough Poets, and range from scenic views of Rockland County present and past, to experiences of life here. The participating poets are: Barbara Hurley, Martin I. Levine, Ted Mascola, Greg Roman, Jane Craig Sebok, Irving Sherman, Harry Waitzman and Diane E. Weber. The black and white photographs are by Rockland based photographer Alice M. Hughey, whose work captures the environment in which she lives and the activities that occupy her.

All workshops take place on Saturday mornings, at Valley Cottage Library, unless otherwise notified.

Attendees should plan to arrive at the library at 10 AM, to make copies of poems.

The business meeting will start promptly at 10:15 AM. The workshop will begin at 10:30 AM and continue to approximately 12:30 PM or until work-shopping is complete.

Attendees who arrive late will have their poems work-shopped last, if time allows.

Non-members who wish to attend a meeting must contact Marty Levine before the meeting (preferably by Thursday or Friday evening) to ensure that there is room for them that week in the workshop.

Ramapough Poets members must let Marty know if they will NOT be attending a workshop, so that their seat in the workshop may be offered to a visitor. If the decision to miss a meeting is only arrived at on the morning of a workshop, please call Marty on his cell phone.

If Marty is unavailable, please contact Diane Weber.

The 2008 Backspace Writers Conference (August 7 & 8, NYC) brings
together literary agents, acquisitions editors, bestselling authors, and
publishing professionals for a two-day, two-track program of workshops,
panels, and networking in the heart of the publishing world.

Keynote speakers are Mark Tavani, a senior editor at Random House, and
John Searles, bestselling author and books editor at Cosmopolitan Magazine.

workshop titled, “Buy This Book!”

Cost for the two-day event is $395. Mystery Writers of America is
offering their members a $50 discount. Attendance is limited to 200, but
